Ravello is a natural terrace perched on a rocky outcrop jutting out over the Gulf of Salerno, not far from Amalfi, Maiori and Minori. Surrounded by lush nature, it is one of the quietest, most charming and chic villages on the Amalfi Coast, described by the most illustrious travellers as the ‘Home of the Spirit’.
Interesting facts
The protagonist of one of Giovanni Boccaccio’s most beautiful novellas in the “Decameron”, Landolfo Rufolo, was from Ravello.
What to visit
Villa Rufolo
Villa Rufolo is a historic building in Ravello, built in the 13th century at the behest of the wealthy Rufolo family. Built in the Arab-Sicilian style, it stands in the same square overlooked by the Cathedral of San Pantaleone.
Overlooking the Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Salerno, the terraces of Villa Rufolo offer an extraordinary view which, in 1880, inspired the composer Richard Wagner to write the second act of his famous opera *Parsifal*. The annual summer Ravello Festival has been dedicated to the composer for many years.
