Conca dei Marini

Conca dei Marini: the Emerald Grotto and the traditions of the fishing village

Conca dei Marini is a charming fishing village four kilometres from Amalfi in the direction of Positano, a destination for tourists who come from all over the world to enjoy the beauty, tranquillity and seclusion of the place.

Surrounded by small white houses with flower-filled balconies, it lies on a small bay overlooked by an ancient Saracen Tower built in the 1500s to defend the population from pirate raids.

Torre del Capo di Conca
Also known as the Saracen Tower or White Tower, the Torre del Capo di Conca is an ancient watchtower erected in the 16th century on a promontory jutting out into the sea. Nestled amidst dense Mediterranean scrub, the tower formed part of the defensive system of the entire Amalfi Coast.

Chapel of the Madonna della Neve
The Chapel is a place of worship dear to the people of Conca. Set into the rock close to the beach of Marina di Conca, it is dedicated to Our Lady of the Snows, protector of sailors, who is celebrated on 5 August each year with a picturesque procession by sea and the celebration of Holy Mass on the beach.
Legend has it that the high relief on the altar, depicting the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus, was found by the sailors of Conca on the beach at Constantinople following the sacking by the Ottomans.

Church of San Pancrazio
First mentioned in an official document from 1370 by the Archbishop of Amalfi, the church enjoys an enchanting view of Positano and the Capri rocks. The splendid olive grove surrounding it is said to have been a source of inspiration for the poet Alfonso Gatto.
